10 Signs You Might Have A Nutrient Deficiency

My friends at 10X Health have identified 10 signs that you might have a nutrient deficiency.  These are some of the most common symptoms of nutrient deficiencies.  Let me know if any of these symptoms ring a bell for you?

  • ANXIETY
  • DEPRESSION
  • ADD/ADHD
  • OCD
  • POOR SLEEP
  • GUT ISSUES
  • WEIGHT GAIN
  • BRAIN FOG
  • THYROID PROBLEMS
  • HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

If bells are ringing and you’d like to get to the bottom if it, the best thing to do is to get a gene test.  This will let you know if you’re deficient in certain nutrients.  And another reason to get a gene test is you may be over supplementing.  I know I was.  Talking all sorts of supplements based on self diagnosing a potential problem without knowing all the facts.  You may be different but my supplement routine used to be similar to throwing you know what on the wall and seeing what sticks and most likely resulting in some very expensive urine…

Nutrient Deficiency Fun Facts

Here’s something I didn’t know.  Did you know that all nutrients that go into your body need to be converted or transformed into a usable format?

So what that means to you and I is everything we ingest from proteins, carbohydrates, amino acids, and fats, all the way to minerals, nutrients, and vitamins, our bodies can convert some of these compounds, but not all of them.  So if our body can’t convert something, then we’re left with a nutrient deficiency, which can cause the issues we just listed off.

And to top it all off every body is unique.  We all have different genetic makeups so while we may have common symptoms, there could be very different reasons based on our DNA and genetic make up.

For example, 44% of the world’s population has a genetic mutation

that makes it tough for them to create enough of the 5-MTHFR gene?  What did you call me?

In a nutshell, if you experience anxiety, anxiousness, depression, panic attacks, gut issues, sleep issues or a racing mind it might be because your body can’t create enough of this 5-MTHFR gene.

That can effect your methylation cycle which is a crucial process that our body has to go through in order to convert raw nutrients into the usable forms that our body needs.

This methylation process is essential for everything from detoxification to energy production, hormone balance, and maintaining proper immune and nervous system function.

Good news / Bad news, it’s not just one gene that can cause these issues. There are actually five main genes that could be messed up and preventing our bodies from functioning optimally and depriving us of essential nutrients.

Nutrient Deficiency: Simple Solution To A Complex Problem

What’s my problem?  I’ll tell you.  I did my gene test with 10X Health and had results in under a week.  Turns out I’ve got issues with my MTHFR for sure.  In fact both parents left me that gene mutation so I’m one of the 44%.

Quick reminder on symptoms when you’re MTHFR is wonky:

Anxiety, Anxiousness, Depression and Panic Attacks. Gut issues, sleep issues, racing mind.  I’m pretty straight with the gut issues but all the other stuff is totally me and has been me from day one as far back as I can remember.

My MTR and MTRR are also out of whack.  Not sure which one but one of my parents jacked me on one of each.  The only way to find out for sure which one to blame is to get my dad tested.

MTR deficiency symptoms include Gas, Bloating, Diarrhea, Constipation and Cramping.  Good times but doesn’t sound like me much except when you factor in that I do carry my anxiety in my stomach.  It’s the first thing to go when I get anxious.  It’s part of the whole gut / brain axis thing.  So there’s a connection there for sure.  Additionally, I do consider myself a highly skilled belcher.  Lemonade outta lemons baby!

What about MTRR?  Heartburn and Acid Reflux, Thyroid Issues and Short Temper, High blood pressure.  So no on the heartburn and acid reflux.  Very rare for me.  My thyroid seems to be behaving itself but I will admit, I can have a short temper at times and have spent years working on managing that and controlling it and my blood pressure does like to run high.  And this is another reason why I am such a HUGE proponent of breath work.

Now here’s where is get’s interesting…

The other genes tested for is AHCY and COMP and these are intact.  It’s all good.  Awesome!  Especially considering that the symptoms are addictive tendencies and behavior, ADD/ADHD, OCD, Racing Thoughts, Poor Sleep, Perfectionist, High Self Drive.

Except, I have also been challenged with many of these symptoms and struggled with addiction in my life.  So how can that be?  Simple.  I believe that my addictions have been me trying to self-medicate my way out of my anxiety.  And let us not forget how life experience and environment combined with a gene mutation can set the stage for a nice addiction or two.  Especially when you finally get relief from your anxiety.

What’s the next step?

Remember what I said earlier about how gene testing is a simple solution to a very complex problem?  Once you get tested with 10X Health, they will give you a customized supplement program designed to compensate for your unique gene mutations and consequently handle a nutrient deficiency or two or three.

I’ve been following my 10X Health Supplement Protocol based on the results from my 10X Gene Test for about 9 months now and here’s what I’ve noticed about my over all well being…  it’s better.  Like way better.  Now keep in mind, that doesn’t mean I don’t experience anxiety or have an occasional sleepless night, but here’s the deal, the frequency is way less and the intensity is less too.  Since 2007, I’ve managed my anxiety without drugs, alcohol or nicotine and instead used vigorous exercise, breath work and a mostly healthy diet to keep the anxiety in check.

Now that I’ve added the 10X Supplements and 9 months later there is a greater since of well being and I don’t feel like I’m fighting with my anxiety.  And that’s another point I’d like to make here.  When you do your gene test and start supplementing for deficiency instead of supplement to supplement, it’s a lot like growing a plant.  It’s probably not going to bear fruit over night.  It will take time for your body to reset.  So the last piece of advice I want to give you is patience.
