Ask These 4 Questions For A Successful Day
So let me start off with a few questions that are not any of the four questions to ask every morning to have a successful day. How do you start your day? Is it structured and disciplined or more like a chaotic whirlwind to get to work on time? Are you getting up at the same time every morning? What time do you go to bed? And what kind of BS excuses are popping up in your head right now to justify why you don’t have more consistency in your day which equates to your life?
So before we get into the questions, here’s my challenge to you. If you don’t have one already, you need to develop a morning routine that is ritualized. And by ritual I’m talking about sacred. Activities that you do, in the morning that set the tone for your entire day.
Ritual: a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order.
Sacred: regarded with great respect and reverence by a particular religion, group, or individual.
Develop a morning routine that is ritualized and sacred.
Part of this morning routine should put focus on what you’re going to create today. Yes, you definitely want to put attention on all your goals. Long term and short term goals and targets are necessary, but let me ask you another question… What is the only moment that actually exists? Exactly! Right now! And your right now is created by what you do right now; today. The past is gone and the future isn’t here, yet… but it will be determined by what you make of today and where you allow your thoughts to take you.
Ask these 4 questions every morning for a successful day
So, you got some decisions to make about how your day is going to go. This is something I’ve been doing for years and recently I stumbled on these 4 specific questions on Instagram and added them to my morning ritual and goal setting practice. I find these questions to be very powerful because they force a decision to be made about what kind of day you’re going to create. I’m going to list them off first, then do a quick deep dive on each.
- How do I want to feel today?
- Who do I want to be today?
- What am I going to receive today?
- What do I want to give today?
ONE: How do I want to feel today?
Simple enough, right? How do you want to feel today? The answer is the decision and you want to put that answer in first person. The answer should be “today, I feel… [insert high frequency emotional tone here]. This is how YOU want and will feel today. You determine this, NOT the news, NOT Twitter, NOT your significant other, not circumstance, but YOU. YOU decide your mood and your tone. Try it right now. How do you want to feel right now? I am exhilarated and eager! How about you? Make a decision right now and then say it out loud… I am… Now write that down too. Get your feeling into the physical universe. This makes it real and gives it longevity.
TWO: Who do I want to be today?
I’ve been saying this one for years. “I am a strong, confident, capable, deserving and rich man who is full of life, love, vigor and inspiration.” That’s who I am, it’s not just who I “want” to be, but who I am. What about you? Who do you want to be today? You can be all of these things. You can be whoever you want to be today and why wouldn’t you want to be the best version of yourself.
CAUTION: Make sure that these statements are affirming the things you’re creating. Be careful not to affirm want. When you say, “I want” you get more want. When you say, “I am” you create the thing you’re after. Follow? This is some Wayne Dyer wisdom that should be your standard operating procedure and as Robert Anthony says in Beyond Positive Thinking, “hope is the subtle illusion of what might be today.” Give up hope and stay in affirmative creation.
THREE: What am I going to receive today?
Stuff is coming your way. Might as well have a say in that! And since it’s your call, go big. As big as you can imagine. One of my mentors Grant Cardone has said, “You can’t have what you can’t see.” So what can you see? What can you create and attract into your life today? Who cares if it doesn’t show up today and how do you know it didn’t? Maybe it’s under construction. You can’t rush a tomato plant. Well, actually you can, it’s just a massive waste of time and energy. Now make a decision… “Today I will receive…” and then go out and look for all the reasons why that is happening.
FOUR: What do I want to give today?
Whoa, wait a second! I knew there was a catch! I have to actually do something now? But… But… That’s not fair! Actually not only is it fair but it’s how the universe works. Expecting something for nothing is basically setting yourself up for failure. Look at anyone who has created anything that was successful. Anyone. What did they give? How much time, money, energy, attention, love, blood, sweat, tears. As the saying goes, it is better to give that receive. So make a commitment today. What will you give today in order to receive? How big was your ask? And is what you’re giving greater than your ask?
WRAPPING IT UP
What do you think your days will start to look like if you take pen to paper and journal the answers to these questions every single morning? I mean, take a moment and imagine your physical, mental and spiritual conditions 365 days from right now when you make the decision to write your answers to these 4 questions every day. In fact, forget the 365 for a second, what kind of a WEEK could you have?
So here’s the challenge, set a reminder on your phone DAILY first thing in the morning. Incorporate these 4 questions into your morning rituals and in 7 days, leave a comment here on what happened, what you gained, what you’re starting to see and who you are becoming.
